IDPs in Amadi receive business support to boost livelihoods

Internally Displaced Persons in Amadi Residential Area, Central Equatoria State, have received start-up support to help expand their small businesses. The assistance includes maize flour, wheat, cooking oil and other essential items. The initiative targets displaced people and members of the host community and aims to improve livelihoods and strengthen small businesses. Speaking to Eye Radio during the distribution exercise, Nyakuma Peter, Executive Director of Together South Sudan, says the program is designed to support women who already run small businesses in the area.

“We are trying to boost up the business by giving them some items, depending on what they are selling,” she said. Peter says some beneficiaries sell dry fish, onions and other cooking items from small tables in the local market. Martha Nyakueth, one of the beneficiaries and a mother of two living with a physical disability, says the assistance will help her expand her business and support her children’s education. “I’m very happy with the assistance I have received,” she said.
