Sputnik Africa interview with President Isaias

Asmara, 29 October 2026 – In an interview with Sputnik Africa, President Isaias Afwerki stressed that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is a fundamental pillar of international law and the global order.

In the interview, which focused on relations between Eritrea and Russia, regional and global developments, Russia’s relations with African countries, and global challenges hindering strategic partnership, President Isaias said that partnership cannot be nurtured unless independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected. President Isaias said that enhancing strategic partnership requires, first and foremost, addressing global obstacles, particularly those related to the global financial system. Otherwise, discussions on trade, investment and economic cooperation would be meaningless.
